Why I Prefer Albania Over Malta
Albania is a relatively tiny but pretty country on the Mediterranean, near Macedonia. This country is probably the least visited countries in southern Europe but that will change before you know it as more travellers appreciate its amazing sites. This country has gorgeous, sandy beaches, almost virgin mountain regions, and young, changing cities.
Albania’s white sandy beaches are lovely. Albanian beaches are usually white, sandy beaches but of course there are a dozen pebble beaches as well. You could spend time in the hot dry sun on a blanket or get a lounge, the option is yours to make. Plenty of the beaches are pretty much untouched by foreign visitors and a few are so quiet that you can have the beach all to yourself, even in August.
There are many mountainous regions in Albania. The mountainous regions in the north are exceptional for skiing or hiking and you can possibly visit at least a few waterfalls and fabulous lakes in that part of the country. The mountains in that area are wonderful to view but the other mountain regions are also amazing.
Albanian cities are very vibrant with a cafe culture so there are plenty of hip cafes to go to. Albania cities for example Shkodra are worth spending time in to see the unique old city area and possibly to visit a museum or two.
You will most likely find that Albanians are very warm and will be more than pleased to introduce you to their country if you spend time there.
